I was trying to clone the git repository this morning and it fails
every time:
$ git clone http://www.kernel.org/pub/scm/git/git.git git
defaulting to local storage area

I tried this a couple of times this morning (an hour apart) to find
out whether it was just some mirroring glitch, but the error
prevailed. What's wrong?
I'm using git compiled earlier this week on Debian unstable.

Tried to repro, but takes ageson my puny cablemodem. Cloning via rsync
seems to work well though.

Rsync works for me also. But HTTP is still broken.
