Any info is highly appreciated. Or perhaps, upon reading an FP file that the input scale factor can be done in FP? In a lot of my work, the decoding process of my software is totally dependent on the input material, which might have been recorded/played back with higher than 0dB input/output. (That is, the material was produced using analog tape.) I have crafted some work arounds and of course, my software has input/output gains so that the scaling can be done there. However, the decoding process is highly mathematically intricate (multiple Hilbert Transforms per sample). so once decoding is complete, a redo can take minutes. I know the work-arounds, but this would be more useful for neophyte users of my software... Or possibly, when I make mistakes :-). I looked at the SoX source code, recognizing that FP might be a rough thing to upgrade everything, but hows about the input scaling factor? This would allow me to always use an input -6dB or -7.5dB scaling factor, and then dealing with the levels later on???
