Dear all,

I am attending libreplanet, coming from Brussels, Belgium the place
where FOSDEM has taken place yearly since 2000. We hold here a key
signing party that is considered important if we want to build a
distributed trust society. It is organized along the process described
in [1].

Is there a keysigning party during LibrePlanet ? I have not found any.

Would it be possible to set one up simply even with such a short delay ?

I would with pleasure exchange keys and show my ID to as many people as
possible during libreplanet.

I would also like to have the opportunity to present the educode.be
international conference on education and technology in Brussels on
August 27, 28, 29 2018 where we want to « Inform, train and make the
educaton community reflect on the challenee of the digital world »

As we shall teach the teachers, also about coding, this implies access
to the code and we shall ONLY use free software on smartphones, desktops
and the web. I have had the pleasure to turn down the proposal of
Microsoft to collaborate (and refuse their money which was harder !)
until THEY decide to change their licence for all the products they
propose in education. I have also had the change to explain, when I was
told « but we at Microsoft, we do also do open source », that we do not
do open-source but only free software, which is a subtle but essential
difference (thanks to rms for the explanation years ago)

Best regards,

Nicolas

I guess there is no organized KSP, which is a shame, as following the
Zimmermann-Sassaman KSP protocol is quite convenient.

I am bringing several fingerprint slips with me, and expect to grow my
amount of cross-signing activity. You would expect me to, as I'm
delivering a talk on Debian's use of the cryptographic keyring! ;-)
Note however that my personal policy includes not signing keys based
"just" on checking govt-issued IDs, but on something more
"meaningful".

As far as I know you are the first to have written here about it.
Last year Jason Self organized several different meetup times for key
signing but as I understand it is not attending this year.

> > Would it be possible to set one up simply even with such a short delay ?

Yes! It is never too late until afterward. :-)

I haven't even looked at the schedule yet but last year we met in the
common area in the middle at a few different times in the breaks
between talks. Doing that again this year seems like would work out
well. All we would need is to publicize some times to do this.

I am also bringing my key fingerprint cards and hoping to exchange
signatures with as many people as possible. It is important to spread
the web of trust across the geography.

This causes me to have more questions than answers. Perhaps I should
bring flowers on such a first date? :-)

I would love to participate in a key signing party. I’ve never heard of finger print cards though. Can anyone link to these?

I’m planning on changing to using my SDF email as my primary email and will have a fresh key I need to get signed.

We can organize in IRC during the conference or if someone has access to a large format printer that wants to make a sign we could have a banner.

I’m super excited for Libre Planet and meeting folks.

Thanks

-Marcus

I had suggested an FSF-sponsored keysigning party a couple months ago,
but I never followed up and unfortunate it didn't materialize.

Would there be someone interested in organizing some times? I'm
unfortunately still trying to finalize my talk so I don't have the time
to focus on that atm.

In a nutshell, it is not advised to sign your ID on the spot; it's
best to exchange signatures in slips of paper, and later at home check
them, sign and mail them. I *strongly* suggest you to use the "caff"
program, part of Debian's "signing-party" package.

The most basic information you need to include there is your name, the
*full* fingerprint for the key to be signed, and the mail addresses
you have identities for; that's *very* close to the output of «gpg
--fingerprint $yourkey». Many people print business cards with the
relevant information; that's perfectly accepted as well.

Yes, lets arrange that way.

It is indeed important to spread it. But, IMO, it's important for it
to be based on _trust_, not just on wanting to reach wider. My
(not-too-hard) argument is that I will sign your key if we have
interacted enough for me to be reasonably certain I would recognize
your face↔identity match in a couple of years time. Also, I care more
about the identity your peers give you; I don't care much for
government-issued IDs (as I know how easy some are to forge), but
for... Trust ☺

So, see you there.

PS- Don't bring flowers. I'm not an USA citizen, and I would not be
able to bring them home. Also, my wife would not really appreciate it.

I think keysigning will be good at the hack night on saturday, and
probably in the common area of mit, perhaps at any librebooting area.
Also, I encourage anyone interested in key signing to add their
name here, https://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:GNU/Keysigning/Offers
and add a note (attending libreplanet 2018) as I've done. Or feel
free to suggest something else.

Yeah - It isn't as if it is difficult to obtain a fake and having a
policy like that with no exceptions is not so great to people who are
unable to obtain one, who are philosophically opposed to them or who are
using a pseudonym.
