What's cooking in git.git (Jan 2021, #03; Fri, 15)

Here are the topics that have been cooking.  Commits prefixed with '-' are
only in 'seen' (formerly 'pu'---proposed updates) while commits prefixed
with '+' are in 'next'.  The ones marked with '.' do not appear in any of
the integration branches, but I am still holding onto them.

The second batch of topics are now in 'master'.  The "homebrew" fix
is still in 'next' (but I'll fast-track it down soonish), so we may
see CI failures on macOS jobs.

 "git diff" showed a submodule working tree with untracked cruft as
 "Submodule commit <objectname>-dirty", but a natural expectation is
 that the "-dirty" indicator would align with "git describe --dirty",
 which does not consider having untracked files in the working tree
 as source of dirtiness.  The inconsistency has been fixed.

 Will merge to 'master'.

Thanks for dealing with some of the shuffle between this and the
tb/pack-revindex-api branch. I have a string of topics in my fork
that are based on this multi-series of patches, but I'll send them to
the list one at a time to avoid crossing topics.

I figured that sending these two at the same time would be worthwhile,
but seeing the pain it caused was enough to not make me want to send two
dependent topics at the same time again.

(There may some semi-related fixes--especially around .keep packs--that
I could pull out of the chain entirely, and so they could be submitted
alongside other topics without one depending on the other. I look into
whether or not it's possible next week.)

I think the base "API" topic at its v2 has seen enough reviews and
is ready for 'next', so together with the CoC 2.0 and various fixup
patches on top of ab/mailmap topic, it will appear in 'next' soonish.
