Here are the topics that have been cooking. Commits prefixed with
'-' are only in 'pu' (proposed updates) while commits prefixed with
'+' are in 'next'. The ones marked with '.' do not appear in any of
the integration branches, but I am still holding onto them.

You can find the changes described here in the integration branches
of the repositories listed at

    http://git-blame.blogspot.com/p/git-public-repositories.html

--------------------------------------------------
[New Topics]

 - sequencer: move the code writing total_nr on the disk to a new function

* as/shallow-slab-use-fix (2019-10-02) 1 commit
 - shallow.c: don't free unallocated slabs

 Correct code that tried to reference all entries in a sparse array
 of pointers by mistake.

 Will merge to 'next'.

* js/fetch-jobs (2019-10-02) 1 commit
 - fetch: let --jobs=<n> parallelize --multiple, too

 "git fetch --jobs=<n>" allowed <n> parallel jobs when fetching
 submodules, but this did not apply to "git fetch --multiple" that
 fetches from multiple remote repositories. It now does.

 Will merge to 'next'.

* js/mingw-spawn-with-spaces-in-path (2019-10-02) 1 commit
 - t0061: fix test for argv[0] with spaces (MINGW only)

 Dev support.

 Will merge to 'next'.

* js/range-diff-noprefix (2019-10-03) 1 commit
 - range-diff: internally force `diff.noprefix=true`

 "git range-diff" segfaulted when diff.noprefix configuration was
 used, as it blindly expected the patch it internally generates to
 have the standard a/ and b/ prefixes. The command now forces the
 internal patch to be built without any prefix, not to be affected
 by any end-user configuration.

 Will merge to 'next'.

* bw/rebase-autostash-keep-current-branch (2019-09-07) 2 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-18 at 6d8ed846ed)
 + builtin/rebase.c: Remove pointless message
 + builtin/rebase.c: make sure the active branch isn't moved when autostashing

 "git rebase --autostash <upstream> <branch>", when <branch> is
 different from the current branch, incorrectly moved the tip of the
 current branch, which has been corrected.

  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-18 at 7dd173f824)
 + status: mention --skip for revert and cherry-pick
 + completion: add --skip for cherry-pick and revert
 + completion: merge options for cherry-pick and revert

 The command line completion support (in contrib/) learned about the
 "--skip" option of "git revert" and "git cherry-pick".

 cleaned up.

* dl/rebase-i-keep-base (2019-08-27) 9 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-18 at f94f486724)
 + rebase: teach rebase --keep-base
 + rebase tests: test linear branch topology
 + rebase: fast-forward --fork-point in more cases
 + rebase: fast-forward --onto in more cases
 + rebase: refactor can_fast_forward into goto tower

 + t3432: distinguish "noop-same" v.s. "work-same" in "same head" tests
 + t3432: test rebase fast-forward behavior
 + t3431: add rebase --fork-point tests

 "git rebase --keep-base <upstream>" tries to find the original base
 of the topic being rebased and rebase on top of that same base,
 which is useful when running the "git rebase -i" (and its limited
 variant "git rebase -x").

 The command also has learned to fast-forward in more cases where it
 can instead of replaying to recreate identical commits.

* dl/use-sq-from-test-lib (2019-09-06) 1 commit
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-09 at 9a6619ddab)

 A configuration variable tells "git fetch" to write the commit
 graph after finishing.

* ds/include-exclude (2019-09-05) 5 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-18 at 1a3655a089)

 + treewide: rename 'exclude' methods to 'pattern'
 + treewide: rename 'EXCL_FLAG_' to 'PATTERN_FLAG_'
 + treewide: rename 'struct exclude_list' to 'struct pattern_list'
 + treewide: rename 'struct exclude' to 'struct path_pattern'

 The internal code originally invented for ".gitignore" processing
 got reshuffled and renamed to make it less tied to "excluding" and
 stress more that it is about "matching", as it has been reused for
 things like sparse checkout specification that want to check if a
 path is "included".

* js/diff-rename-force-stable-sort (2019-10-02) 2 commits
 - diffcore_rename(): use a stable sort
 - Move git_sort(), a stable sort, into into libgit.a

 The rename detection logic sorts a list of rename source candidates
 by similarity to pick the best candidate, which means that a tie
 between sources with the same similarity is broken by the original
 location in the original canidate list (which is sorted by path).
 Force the sorting by similarity done with a stable sort, which is
 not promised by system supplied qsort(3), to ensure consistent
 results across platforms.

Already picked up on the tip of cc/multi-promisor and pushed out, I
think, as part of yesterday's integration cycle.

Thanks for fixing.

Nearly, but not quite I think cf [1]. Also I'm still not convinced that
having different behaviors for --ignore-whitespace depending on the
backend is going to be helpful but maybe they are close enough not to
matter too much in practice [2].

Sorry I should have chimed in sooner; I can speak to the second point.
I would say that in practice it doesn't matter a lot; in most cases
the two overlap. Both am's --ignore-whitespace and merge's
-Xignore-space-change are buggy (in different ways) and should be
fixed, but I'd consider them both to be buggy in edge cases. I
recommended earlier this summer that Rohit submit the patches without
first attempting to fix apply or xdiff, and kept in my TODO list
that'd I'd go in and fix xdiff later if Rohit didn't have extra time
for it. I did a little digging back then to find out the differences
and suggested some text to use to explain them and to argue that they
shouldn't block this feature:

"""
am's --ignore-space-change (an alias for am's --ignore-whitespace; see
git-apply's description of those two flags) not only share the same
name with diff's --ignore-space-change and merge's
-Xignore-space-change, but the similarity in naming appears to have
been intentional with am's --ignore-space-change and merge's
-Xignore-space-change being designed to have the same functionality
(see e.g. the commit messages for f008cef4abb2 ("Merge branch
'jc/apply-ignore-whitespace'", 2014-06-03) and 4e5dd044c62f
("merge-recursive: options to ignore whitespace changes",
2010-08-26)). For the most part, these options do provide the same
behavior. However, there are some edge cases where both apply's
--ignore-space-change and merge's -Xignore-space-change fall short of
optimal behavior, and in different ways. In particular,
--ignore-space-change for apply will handle whitespace changes in the
context region but not in the region the other side modified, and
-Xignore-space-change will delete whitespace changes even when the
other side had no changes (thus treating both sides as unmodified).
Fixing these differences in edge cases is left for future work; this
patch simply wires interactive rebase to also understand
--ignore-whitespace by translating it to -Xignore-space-change.
"""

I've got another email with even more detail if folks need it.

Thanks for clarifying that, it sounds like it shouldn't be a problem in
practice then (especially if you're planning some improvements)

Best Wishes

Phillip

OK, so I'll leave a note that this needs to consider existing
GIT_COMMITTER_DATE environment variable, etc, with a reference to
<5adde732-173b-d24d-d23f-bb4d043076d7@gmail.com>.

A URL to public-inbox.org is good, but that is because those who do
not use public-inbox.org (or after the site goes out of service) can
still identify exactly which message you are referring to if you use
the https://public-inbox.org/git/$message_id_without_brackets
format.

Unlike that form, the format you used only identifies the thread
starter, and without public-inbox.org in service, a reader cannot
tell which message in the thread you are referring to, even if the
reader had full mailing list archive.

IOW, I would have appreciated if the above reference were done like
so:

 https://public-inbox.org/git/5adde732-173b-d24d-d23f-bb4d043076d7@gmail.com/

Thanks.
