Here are the topics that have been cooking. Commits prefixed with
'-' are only in 'pu' (proposed updates) while commits prefixed with
'+' are in 'next'. The ones marked with '.' do not appear in any of
the integration branches, but I am still holding onto them.

We have a new maintainer for git-gui now. Thanks Pratyush for
volunteering.

You can find the changes described here in the integration branches
of the repositories listed at

    http://git-blame.blogspot.com/p/git-public-repositories.html

--------------------------------------------------
[Graduated to "master"]

* bc/reread-attributes-during-rebase (2019-09-03) 2 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-07 at 9f5e5db0b0)
 + am: reload .gitattributes after patching it
 + path: add a function to check for path suffix

 The "git am" based backend of "git rebase" ignored the result of
 updating ".gitattributes" done in one step when replaying
 subsequent steps.

* bm/repository-layout-typofix (2019-08-19) 1 commit
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-08-23 at 7b1fffbaea)

 Typofix.

* cb/curl-use-xmalloc (2019-08-15) 1 commit
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-07 at 07da24f51c)
 + http: use xmalloc with cURL
 (this branch uses jk/drop-release-pack-memory.)

 Tell cURL library to use the same malloc() implementation, with the
 xmalloc() wrapper, as the rest of the system, for consistency.

* cb/fetch-set-upstream (2019-08-19) 1 commit
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-08-23 at cf8c2ea0a0)
 + pull, fetch: add --set-upstream option

 "git fetch" learned "--set-upstream" option to help those who first
 clone from their private fork they intend to push to, add the true
 upstream via "git remote add" and then "git fetch" from it.

* cc/multi-promisor (2019-06-25) 15 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-07 at 46faa86955)
 + Move core_partial_clone_filter_default to promisor-remote.c
 + Move repository_format_partial_clone to promisor-remote.c
 + Remove fetch-object.{c,h} in favor of promisor-remote.{c,h}
 + remote: add promisor and partial clone config to the doc
 + partial-clone: add multiple remotes in the doc
 + t0410: test fetching from many promisor remotes
 + builtin/fetch: remove unique promisor remote limitation
 + promisor-remote: parse remote.*.partialclonefilter

 + promisor-remote: implement promisor_remote_get_direct()
 + Add initial support for many promisor remotes
 + fetch-object: make functions return an error code
 + t0410: remove pipes after git commands

 Teach the lazy clone machinery that there can be more than one
 promisor remote and consult them in order when downloading missing
 objects on demand.

* ds/feature-macros (2019-08-13) 6 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-08-23 at 115f0c8df9)

* jk/drop-release-pack-memory (2019-08-13) 1 commit
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-07 at 30f841c42d)
 + packfile: drop release_pack_memory()
 (this branch is used by cb/curl-use-xmalloc.)

 xmalloc() used to have a mechanism to ditch memory and address
 space resources as the last resort upon seeing an allocation
 failure from the underlying malloc(), which made the code complex
 and thread-unsafe with dubious benefit, as major memory resource
 users already do limit their uses with various other mechanisms.
 It has been simplified away.

* jk/eoo (2019-08-06) 3 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-08-23 at 217e97127a)
 + gitcli: document --end-of-options
 + parse-options: allow --end-of-options as a synonym for "--"
 + revision: allow --end-of-options to end option parsing

 The command line parser learned "--end-of-options" notation; the
 standard convention for scripters to have hardcoded set of options
 first on the command line, and force the command to treat end-user
 input as non-options, has been to use "--" as the delimiter, but
 that would not work for commands that use "--" as a delimiter
 between revs and pathspec.

* jk/repo-init-cleanup (2019-08-06) 3 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-08-23 at 1a5e4c4f06)

 - list-objects-filter: handle unresolved sparse filter OID
 - list-objects-filter: only parse sparse OID when 'have_git_dir'

 Band-aid on "git clone --sparse:oid=X" that would hit BUG().

* js/pre-merge-commit-hook (2019-08-07) 4 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-07 at 0c9f25399c)
 + merge: --no-verify to bypass pre-merge-commit hook
 + git-merge: honor pre-merge-commit hook
 + merge: do no-verify like commit
 + t7503: verify proper hook execution

 A new "pre-merge-commit" hook has been introduced.

* js/rebase-r-strategy (2019-09-05) 17 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-07 at 71e2451f6c)
 + t3427: accelerate this test by using fast-export and fast-import
 + rebase -r: do not (re-)generate root commits with `--root` *and* `--onto`
 + t3418: test `rebase -r` with merge strategies

 + t3427: move the `filter-branch` invocation into the `setup` case
 + t3427: simplify the `setup` test case significantly
 + t3427: add a clarifying comment
 + rebase: fold git-rebase--common into the -p backend
 + sequencer: the `am` and `rebase--interactive` scripts are gone
 + .gitignore: there is no longer a built-in `git-rebase--interactive`
 + t3400: stop referring to the scripted rebase
 + Drop unused git-rebase--am.sh

 "git rebase --rebase-merges" learned to drive different merge
 strategies and pass strategy specific options to them.

* jt/avoid-ls-refs-with-http (2019-08-22) 2 commits
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-09-07 at c6a4ce50a0)
 + transport: teach all vtables to allow fetch first
 + transport-helper: skip ls-refs if unnecessary

 The http transport lacked some optimization the native transports
 learned to avoid unnecessary ref advertisement, which has been
 corrected.

* jt/diff-lazy-fetch-submodule-fix (2019-08-20) 1 commit
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-08-23 at 16997cac26)
 + diff: skip GITLINK when lazy fetching missing objs

 On-demand object fetching in lazy clone incorrectly tried to fetch
 commits from submodule projects, while still working in the
 superproject, which has been corrected.

 + list-objects-filter: implement composite filters
 + list-objects-filter-options: always supply *errbuf
 + list-objects-filter: put omits set in filter struct
 + list-objects-filter: encapsulate filter components
 (this branch is used by ds/include-exclude.)

 The list-objects-filter API (used to create a sparse/lazy clone)
 learned to take a combined filter specification.

* mp/for-each-ref-missing-name-or-email (2019-08-22) 1 commit
  (merged to 'next' on 2019-08-23 at d257cb2138)
 + ref-filter: initialize empty name or email fields

 "for-each-ref" and friends that shows refs did not protect themselves
 against ancient tags that did not record tagger names when asked to
 show "%(taggername)", which have been corrected.

  (merged to 'next' on 2019-08-23 at d80a83b1e4)

 + diff: 'diff.indentHeuristic' is no longer experimental

 We promoted the "indent heuristics" that decides where to split

 some stale documentation still marked it as experimental, which has
 been corrected.

What you have queued at ma/asciidoctor-refmiscinfo matches the latest
version I posted. Thanks for picking it up.

This reference ("please hold off") is from *before* that new version, so
you can drop this reference.

I have sent an updated version of this, that integrates the changes
the js/builtin-add-i topic needs in [*1*]. I think it would be ok to
pick up that version and keep js/builtin-add-i out of pu until it's
rebased on top of that.

Dscho: to help reduce the amount of work you (and to double check that
my series works well with the builtin-add-i series) I have rebased
js/builtin-add-i on top of my series, and pushed the result to
https://github.com/tgummerer/git js/builtin-add-i. Feel free to use
that if it helps :)

Thanks, will replace after looking it over once again.

Thanks for moving my topic along. This was found while generating
commit-graph files on all repositories hosted on GitHub, and some
corrupt repositories triggered the behavior.

We've been running this patch since a few days before I submitted it to
the mailing list without issue, and it certainly does squash the issue
I originally found.

This one has a similar origin story, and has also been running at GitHub
for a few weeks. Happily, it does as it advertises and makes the
commit-graph process faster.

A previous version of this series is running at GitHub, too, and also
without issue.

Thanks,
Taylor

Thanks for a follow-up. Very much appreciated.

Excellent!

I opened PRs at https://github.com/prati0100/git-gui/pulls. Pratyush, do
you accept contributions in this form, or should I do anything
differently?

Ciao,
Johannes

I prefer email. Also, please Cc this list so other people interested in
git-gui can take a look.

I did so.

Since mailing list-centric workflow is cumbersome for me, I used
GitGitGadget (I had to work a bit to allow for that, and you are Cc:ed
manually, that bit is not automated, I hope that other contributors
implement that in https://github.com/gitgitgadget/gitgitgadget if they
want that).

Ciao,
Johannes

Sorry to hear that you had to go through so much trouble to send these
patches. I personally have the opposite taste. I don't like GitHub's
workflow and prefer an email based one.

I don't mind setting aside my differences in preferences, but there is
another more important reason I asked you to email the patches: most of
the people involved and interested in git-gui development watch this
list, and not the "Pull Requests" section on my GitHub.

Either way, thanks for the patches :).
