Stashing the value temporarily in a file ("head-revision") is
unnecessary and somewhat ugly. Just grab it directly after the
subshell exits:

    (
        cd enter_repo &&
        ...
    ) &&
    head=$(git -C enter_repo rev-parse HEAD) &&
    ...
