Good point. I do not know, and I didn't pick the example; the American Heritage Dictionary did. Translated into Spansih both uses would be correct "seat" or "seats" (except "seat" wouldn't have "their", but the equivalent of "his/her"). Anyway, even though I don't mind talking about this, I don't think this mailing list is the place for that.
