There has been talk of a git mascot a while back in 2005. Some people
mentioned a fish or a turtle. Since all the great open source projects
like Linux or RethinkDB have a cute mascot, git definitely needs one
as well. A mascot gives people a recognizable persona towards which
they can direct their unbounded love for the project. It'd even be
good if a plush doll of this mascot could eventually be created for
people to physically express their love of git through cuddling and
hugging.

I'm not really an artist myself, but maybe someone else has some ideas
and could make some sketches? Here's some recommended reading about
RethinkDB's experience coming up with a mascot:

The image in my mind is of a tree, shown above and below ground with roots and branches intertwined, reaching outward and downward.

No graphical skills at all, but...

I would go for a granny who is knitting, making a great sock. Not sure, this
would feel modern, but at least, she could tell us some stories from the
trenches...

Cheers,

Given Git's horrible interface (in some cases still) and power, I'd
say an ugly witch (maybe doing something with trees). But I don't
think anyone can make a cute mascot out of that. Nor does anybody want
to cuddling :D

Hi,
When thinking of a mascot for Git, the image of a cherry tree pops up in my
head. I'd think of a simple and elegant caricature of a tall tree (just like git
histories tend to get long) with a couple of branches and some cherries (think
cherry-pick) hanging around in the lush green crown. Perhaps wearing green
gloves and hands on waist, with big dark eyes and a smile. IMHO, it might be a
good idea to let the mascot have a simple and minimal design instead of
intricate detailing as it would be both easier remember and easier for
production. Also, I'm not a _very_ good sketch artist, but I think I can make
some basic sketches for this one.

Regards,
Sidhant
