Here are the topics that have been cooking in my tree. Commits
prefixed with '+' are in 'next' (being in 'next' is a sign that a
topic is stable enough to be used and are candidate to be in a
future release). Commits prefixed with '-' are only in 'seen',
which means nothing more than that I have found them of interest for
some reason (like "it may have hard-to-resolve conflicts with
another topic already in flight" or "this may turn out to be
useful"). Do not read too much into a topic being in (or not in)
'seen'. The ones marked with '.' do not appear in any of the
integration branches, but I am still holding onto them.

Git 2.33-rc1 has been tagged. The much less invasive "shopt -u
checkwinsize" approach will be used to address the COLUMNS issue at
least for the final release. I do not know what we want to do with
the "log -m" means "log -m -p" issue yet (we haven't heard from the
other camp), so it is in a "broken" state in -rc1.

Copies of the source code to Git live in many repositories, and the
following is a list of the ones I push into or their mirrors. Some
repositories have only a subset of branches.

With maint, master, next, seen, todo:

	git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/git/git.git/
	git://repo.or.cz/alt-git.git/
	https://kernel.googlesource.com/pub/scm/git/git/
	https://github.com/git/git/
	https://gitlab.com/git-vcs/git/

With all the integration branches and topics broken out:

	https://github.com/gitster/git/

Even though the preformatted documentation in HTML and man format
are not sources, they are published in these repositories for
convenience (replace "htmldocs" with "manpages" for the manual
pages):

	git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/git/git-htmldocs.git/
	https://github.com/gitster/git-htmldocs.git/

Release tarballs are available at:

The revision traversal API has been optimized by taking advanrage
of the commit-graph, when available, to determine if a commit is
reachable from any of the existing refs.

 Looking good.

 - git-p4: do not decode data from perforce by default
 - git-p4: avoid decoding more data from perforce

"git p4" in Python-2 days used to accept a lot more kinds of data

 which broke traditional use cases.

tested; this has been rewritten in C.

 Will cook in 'next'.

* jc/trivial-threeway-binary-merge (2021-07-28) 1 commit
 - ll-merge: teach ll_binary_merge() a trivial three-way merge

The built-in merge driver for binary files learned to resolve
trivial three-way merges (e.g. apply change, which turns A into B,
to content A) by itself, which would help "git apply --3way" used
when there is no need to use "--3way".

 Will discard.
Replace with a trivial-merge logic in apply.c::try_treeway() or
 apply.c::three_way_merge().

 - t7601: add tests of interactions with multiple merge heads and config
 - t7601: test interaction of merge/rebase/fast-forward flags and options

"git pull" had various corner cases that were not well thought out
around its --rebase backend, e.g. "git pull --ff-only" did not stop
but went ahead and rebased when the history on other side is not a
descendant of our history. The series tries to fix them up.

I'm not sure what you're expecting in another reroll. No one has
commented on my v3 suggesting any issues and I'm not aware of any
remaining things to fix or include.

On my second-to-last reroll, v2, I got 4 comments on v2 -- a looks
good from each of you and Stolee and Dscho, and Ramsay pointing out an
issue with one of the commit messages. So I fixed the commit message
in v3 and added Stolee's and Dscho's acks. You already picked up v3.

Is there something specific you wanted to see?

I decided to take a look. It appears both Emily and Ævar have
reviewed previously. Ævar brought up some comments on v2 of patch 2,
but Jonathan responded to them all (and Peff chimed in as well), and
there has been no further response from Ævar leaving the impression to
me that Jonathan has replied to all feedback.

I'm not at all familiar with the protocol areas of the code, but I
tried to read over the patches too. I think it'd have been a bit
easier to understand for someone unfamiliar with this area if there
were separate patches that introduced test_expect_failure showing the
particular failures being fixed, followed by fixes in subsequent
patches. I also noticed a stray newline removal in patch 2. Those
are pretty minor issues, though, and I didn't spot anything
substantial.

Quite honestly, I do not know where that "expecting" came from X-<.
It would have applied to the original one, but I think v3 (which is
queued here) should be as ready as it could be.

I am mostly worried about the lack of response to comments on [2/3],
especially to Peff's "Wouldn't this also be a problem for
multi-round fetch?".

Thanks.

Oh, I read Peff's comments[1] to mean that he thought Jonathan's
patches behaved no worse than the existing code in the face of
simultaneously running gc's, and thus that Ævar's concerns shouldn't
hold up Jonathan's patches. But, it's totally possible I
misunderstood his intent -- as I mentioned, I'm not at all familiar
with this area of the code. Maybe Peff or Jonathan can clarify.

Yep, that's what I meant. I think Jonathan's adjacent response to Ævar
agrees with that, too.

(I haven't actually thought hard about _other_ possible issues with push
negotiation at this point, though).

Thanks Elijah and everyone else for discussing. I don't think I have
anything to add to the discussion, but just to address this part, I do
try to write my patches in such a way that in each patch, if a test is
included, it would fail if the accompanying code change in that patch
did not exist. Just in case, I've verified this with my branch by
splitting out the tests and code into their own commits, and pushed it
onto GitHub [1]. The tip points to the exact same tree as
jt/push-negotiation-fixes.
