I think there may be some tricks with automatic rewriting, but it might be possible to do it in the form of GitHub "suggestions", which a human could then click "OK" to a bunch of them. I guess it would be overwhelming if you really diverged style-wise and the diff is large. I don't think GitHub has any support for changing commit messages, though, short of your tool force-pushing. -Peff
