I find the over-quoting annoying, too. Fwiw, my muttrc has: bind pager , skip-quoted Which allows me to hit the comma key to skip over quoted text. Not sure if Alpine or other clients have something similar. But I'd rather not waste the keystroke/bandwidth/storage.
