Collapse "Reply instructions" by default?

Hi,

I find myself using public inbox a lot for Git.
However sometimes I still have issues navigating,
and I wonder if it would make sense to collapse parts
of displayed page such as the reply instructions section.

A quick search revealed that this may not be possible in
plain html and we'd need js or such for that. :/

Hmm... I already put reply instructions near the bottom of the
page so it's less intrusive.  IIRC, there was a while where it
was on a separate HTML page, but I figured the UI would be
faster if it were inline.

Does it really get in your way when it's way down at the bottom?

Would adding '[back to top]' links be helpful for each section?

Right.  There might be a CSS-only way to hide a single element,
but I prefer to avoid CSS.  However, user-specifyable coloring
for diffs will probably happen via CSS.

No, not really.

I think my actual issue was that I got stuck with a URL that had
/t/#u or /T/#u at the end and it became a really long page containing
all emails, so I came up with a non-fix for how to shorten the
page.

I tend to enjoy the pages with just one email + thread view most[1],
as then the navigation is forced via the thread view that is forcing me
to think about where to navigate next while being good at showing how
the thread evolved.
